DESCRIPTION
UCON™ Quenchant A is a non-flammable polymeric quenchant manufactured by The Dow Chemical Company. It is an aqueous solution of a liquid organic polymer and a corrosion inhibitor. The organic polymer is soluble in water and produces a homogeneous solution. At temperatures above 165°F (74°C), however, the polymer separates from water as an insoluble phase.

When hot metal is quenched in a diluted solution of UCON Quenchant A, a film of the liquid organic polymer is deposited on the surface of the hot metal. The rate at which the metal is cooled is governed, in part, by the thickness of the polymer-rich film. The thickness of this film is controlled by the concentration of UCON Quenchant A or A-NN in the quench bath.

The cooling rate is also controlled by adjusting the quench bath temperature and/or the rate of agitation. These parameters, along with product orientation, allow UCON Quenchant A to function uniformly in the heat transfer range from water to medium-speed oils.

APPLICATION
UCON Quenchant A is suitable for:
• The heat treatment of carbon and alloy steels by flames, induction, and submerged induction heating.
• In batch and continuous furnace operations employing gas-fired and carburizing carbonitriding atmospheres.
• With wrought, case, and forged aluminum alloys.

FM Approvals has classified UCON Quenchant A as “FM Approved” as tested against the latest testing criteria. UCON Quenchant A product meets AMS3025B specifications. The optimum operating conditions for a specific metal or part may be determined by control, bath temperature, and/or agitation. UCON Quenchant A minimizes replacement control because of its low deterioration and/or oxidation rate. The major make-up requirement is for water lost by evaporation. This provides greater flexibility in the selection of initial bath temperature and in the permissible run-out temperature during the quench cycle.

UCON Quenchant HT is suitable for:
• Hardening large alloy parts from tilt-top furnaces that previously required an oil quench.
• Hardening forged parts that are quenched directly where higher bath temperatures are required.
• Integral-quench furnaces requiring carburizing atmospheres.

DESCRIPTION
UCON™ Ultraquench RL Plus quenchant is a nonflammable, aqueous solution of a liquid organic polymer and a non-nitrite corrosion inhibitor with antimicrobial and foam protection. It is used for the quenching of medium-carbon to high-carbon steel and alloy steels of most grades, including 300 and 400 series stainless steels. UCON Ultraquench RL Plus is readily adapted to induction hardening, both spray and immersion quenching, for such items as spline shafts, gears, crankshafts, camshafts, and other pieces of intricate geometry and different metallurgy. UCON™ Ultraquench RL Plus may follow oxidizing, neutral, or protective atmosphere furnaces of shaker, rotary, batch or continuous design. This quenchant may be used for direct quenching from the forge, for continuous cast quenching, and for general hardening of forged and cast steels and cast irons.

UCON™ Quenchant NT-NN is a non-tacky, non-nitrite, nonflammable quenchant composed of an aqueous solution of organic polymer, corrosion inhibitor, and biocide. The quenchant concentrate is completely soluble in water. It does not exhibit the inverse solubility (separation of the polymer and water at high temperatures) typical of many other aqueous solutions of liquid organic polymer quenchants.

At ambient temperatures, the polymer is completely soluble in water and produces clear homogeneous solutions. At temperatures above 165°F (74°C); however, the polymer separates from water as an insoluble phase.

When hot metal is quenched in a diluted solution of UCON Quenchant B, a film of the liquid organic polymer is deposited on the surface of the hot metal. The rate at which the metal is cooled is governed, in part, by the thickness of the polymer-rich film. The thickness of this film is controlled by the concentration of UCON Ouenchant B in the quench bath.

The cooling rate is controlled also by adjusting the quench bath temperature and/or the rate of agitation. The main difference between UCON Ouenchant Band other UCON Quenchants is its higher molecular weight, which provides uniform heat transfer in the range of medium speed oils to slow oils.

APPLICATION
UCON Quenchant B presently is being used for:
• Heat treatment of large alloy parts from tilt-top and pit oxidizing and/or atmosphere furnaces that heretofore had required an oil quench.
• Forged parts that are quenched directly from the forge.
• Induction hardening of sensitive shapes and alloys.
• Continuous furnace operations employing gas-fired and carburizing-carbonitriding atmospheres.

BENEFITS
UCON Ouenchant B has been approved by Factory Mutual Research Corporation as a “less-hazardous” quenchant. Opportunity is presented for reduced costs of protection equipment and/or fire insurance. The optimum operating conditions for a specific metal or part may be determined by control of concentrations, bath temperature, and agitation. UCON Quenchant B produces slow “C” phase cooling due to its higher molecular weight ingredient. The major make-up requirement is for water lost by evaporation. UCON Quenchant B eliminates the smoke, soot, and residues common to oil quenchants. Equipment maintenance and plant cleanliness are easier to achieve. UCON Quenchant B is fully soluble in water. DESCRIPTION
UCON™ Quenchant E and E-NN (non-nitrite) are nonflammable polymeric quenchants and are aqueous solutions of a liquid organic polymer and a corrosion inhibitor. The organic polymer is soluble in water. At temperatures above 165°F (74°C), however, the polymer separates from water as an insoluble phase.

UCON Quenchant E-NN is formulated with a proprietary non-nitrite corrosion inhibitor which is completely compatible with UCON Quenchant E without nitrosamine formation. Analogous quenching performance is obtained with either UCON Quenchant E or E-NN. When hot metal is quenched in a diluted solution of UCON Quenchant E or E-NN, a film of the liquid organic polymer is deposited on the surface of the hot metal. The rate at which the metal is cooled is governed, in part, by the thickness of the polymer-rich film. The thickness of this film is controlled by the concentration of UCON Quenchant E or E-NN in the quench bath.

The cooling rate is controlled also by adjusting the quench bath temperature and/or the rate of agitation. The main difference between UCON Quenchant E and E-NN and other UCON Quenchants is the choice of the polymer composition, which provides uniform heat transfer in typical oil applications.

APPLICATION
UCON Quenchant E and E-NN are suitable for:
• Hardening of large alloy parts from tilt-top, car-bottom and pit furnaces.
• Forged parts that are quenched directly from the forge.
• Sensitive alloys and shapes heated by induction.
• Parts processed from continuous and batch-furnace operations employing gas-fired, neutral and carburizing carbonitriding atmospheres requiring oil quenching rates.

BENEFITS
FM Approvals has classified UCON Quenchant E and E-NN as “FM Approved” as tested against the latest testing criteria. The optimum operating conditions for a specific metal or part may be determined by control of concentration, bath temperature, and/or agitation. UCON Quenchant E and E-NN minimize replacement control due to its low deterioration and/or oxidation rate. The major make-up requirement is for water lost by evaporation. UCON Quenchant E and E-NN eliminate the smoke, soot, and residues common to oil quenchants. Equipment maintenance and plant cleanliness are easier to achieve. UCON Quenchant E and E-NN are soluble in water and resistant to bacterial growth. UCON Quenchant E and E-NN will freeze below 32°F (0°C). They should be thawed to room temperature and mixed before use. The product will not be affected in any way.

Tenaxol Quench Ultra 1500 is formulated with a proprietary non-nitrite corrosion inhibitor that does not form nitrosamines. When hot metal is quenched in a diluted solution of Tenaxol Quench Ultra 1500 a film of organic polymer is deposited on the surface. The rate at which this metal is cooled is governed by the thickness of this polymer rich film. The thickness of this film is controlled by the concentration of the Tenaxol Quench Ultra 1500 in the quench bath. This film is fully water soluble at room temperature and does not result in a tacky, residual film.

APPLICATION
Tenaxol Quench Ultra 1500 is suitable for:
• Heat treatment of carbon and alloy steels by flame, induction and submerged induction heating.
• Batch and continuous furnace operations employing gas fired and carburizing- carbon-nitriding atmospheres.
• Wrought, cast and forged aluminum alloys.

Tenaxol Quench Ultra 1500 is completely water soluble and has a built-in bactericide to resist microbial infestation. Tenaxol Quench Ultra 1500 will freeze below 0°C. It can be frozen and then thawed to room temperature and mixed before use without performance loss. Tenaxol Quench Ultra 1500 is not tacky and is easily removed by washing with water. Tenaxol Quench Ultra 1500 baths can be operated within a wide temperature range since the polymer employed is soluble and will not precipitate like other quenching polymers. Tenaxol Quench Ultra 1500 reduces drag-out of components because it is uniquely water soluble over a wide temperature range.

APPLICATION
Tenaxol Quench Ultra 2500 is suitable for:
• Heat treatment of carbon and alloy steels by flame, induction, and submerged induction heating.
• Ideal for alloyed steels like 4340 or 4140.
• Works well on intricate geometries, gears, crankshafts, camshafts, etc.
